City Design lands Chinese jackpot
Glasgow-based City Design has won its first scheme in China and hopes to expand its work in the country
The cooperative practice will deliver the schematic design for Famen Temple Zen Meditation Park in Shaanxi.
The scheme, being undertaken in conjunction with London-based architects Office for Architectural Culture, is part of a wider masterplan within the Famen Temple Cultural Scenic Area.
Director Kirstin Taylor told the AJ: ‘It is our first project in China, which is a market we wish to expand into.
‘It is also a unique project, which is hugely interesting in terms of the landscape design.’
The practice said the park ‘explores landscape as the gateway to enlightenment, creating a unique learning landscape based around the existing Famen Temple relic pagoda’.
Concepts for the park are based on traditional Chinese Buddhist, Feng Shui and Ying Yang philosophies
